Lightbulb Prime a new iron fence?

At my last house, I neglected the iron fence. With my new home, I'm seriously considering painting the new fence with an additional protective coat soon after move-in.
Hopefully someone experienced can chime in here.
Does a new fence require a prime coat? Isn't it already primed?
Thanks and cheers!

We have no magical information about your fence. You should find out if your new fence is bare metal, primed or painted. If it is bare metal or primed I would get paint on it as soon as possible. If you do it right away you might be able to jump right into painting. If you put it off you may have to scrape, sand or sandblast to remove rust before painting.

Also you need to check if the bare steel is clean, sometimes they get sprayed with a light coat of oil to prevent rust.
