Does anyone have plans for a build it yourself gun safe?

I don't have any. One of my friends builit one, just 1x1x1/4 angle frame, and 1/8" walls. Pretty good security, but no fire protection. I Don't know how to build one with fire protection, that is why I purchased mine.

Most of the safes I've seen have used regular sheet rock for the fire protection. Some also use a gasket material around the door that swells and seals when it reaches a certain temperature

The slickest home built unit I ever saw was one a buddy of mine did. He got an old metal wardrobe/wall locker at a GSA auction. One of the double wide gray metal units soldiers used in the barracks.

He spot-welded all the seams so that it could not be disassembled and then he welded hasps for security padlocks near the top and bottom of the door. This to prevent someone from prying up a corner of the door as could be done if there were only one lock in the middle.

He used the side where cloths were hung for rifle/shotgun storage, the drawers for ammo/cleaning supplies and the open shelves for handguns.
