What does a slug do to a choke?
I just got a Remington 870 and the question came up. Will a slug ruin a full choke? If you're going to shoot slugs, what kind of choke should you use?

Shotgun chokes are made to produce a smaller pattern of pellets. I would not use a choke on a gun firing slugs. You may want to try an Improved Cylinder for slugs. Good luck.

That's about the most common shotgun out there and a very good one at that. You can pick up a slug barrel at just about any sporting goods store or even a used one at a gunshop or out of the paper.

chokes
Barrels can be bought on ebay fro decent prices, if you have a pawnshop locally you can check there too. Slug barrels are very handy to have. You will have to decide if you want a rifled slug barrel or a smooth barrel. I use a mossberg 500 with a smooth barrel and winchester rifled slugs and get great accuracy up to 100 yards.

Get a improved cylinder choke tube for slugs. They can be bought for around $20 new in my area. If your going to get serious about deer hunting look at a slug barrel with rifling. Cost will be in the $120-$200 range depending if you go with smooth bore, rifled, scope mount, etc... I have a Rem 870, 11-87, and a Mossberg 500 and own a slug barrel for all three as well as a field barrel.....
