Help with rifle scope purchase

I just bought a Marlin XT-22 (22lr) and purchased a scope and Weaver #12 scope mounts on-line. The scope mounts mounted fine, but the scope ring clamps were too small to mount to the mounts.

I am not a gun expert by any means, just plinkin. Can somebody tell me what I would call the rings to mount to the Weaver base? The ring diameter is 1".

Thank,

John

You bought the smaller rings like you commonly find for 22's called rimfire rings. You just need to get some standard 1" rings to mount to your weaver bases. IMO standard rings are a better mount anyway. There is quite a large price range on rings, but since you putting it on a 22, you shouldn't have to go crazy getting the most expensive. Your rifle has almost no recoil.

John, you are going to find, too, that a scope on a .22 may not be what you want. I have a Marlin lever action (39, I think) and did the same thing you did, but quickly removed the scope and mounts. The .22 is a quick gun, not requiring the steadiness of a larger caliber, so for plinking and snake/rat killin' you want quick action. Mine is so accurate with iron sights is scares me. Out plinking rats at the barn one day, shot twice and wifey says, "missed, didn't ya". Nope, one shot, one kill. Got 'em both that quick.
