Pistol Magazine Question

I just picked up my Ruger SR1911 today and it came with two clips. They are slightly different and one of them (without black piece on bottom) has to be pulled out manually while pressing the clip release button. The other one pops out as expected. Aside from that black piece, they appear to be exactly the same. What gives?

..perhaps it's so the clip doesn't fall out inadvertently in a tense situation.

It could be the bumper adds just enough friction at the insertion point to keep it from falling free. I doubt it was "built in" safety. May have to work it a few times. Speaking of mags, I just bought a Taurus Millennium 9mm, with 12 shot capacity mags, and they are a total bear to load with fat hands. Gee!!

I have seen and heard a few other opinions, but my personal one is that it is a matter of aesthetics. That little edge on the bottom may add something in some people's eyes, and, although I have never used ones like that, I suppose that it could assist with positioning with the little pinky. Again, never had any of them, but have seen others that hang up a little bit; not sure if the rubber, plastic, nylon or whatever it is gets caught on the bottom a bit or what. And your header is right by the way; they are actually magazines, not clips. Just mentioning it, although I'm always happy to meet someone with common interests, regardless of the subject, and am not one who gets hung up on terminology. As for loading 9's in a mag, yup, you bet. I bough my wife a .380a few years ago, thinking that she might like something with a little less kick once in a while, and what a chore that is to load. So I bought one of those little loading magazine loading devices, real simple actually, and inexpensive, and it makes it a whole lot more enjoyable.

The question is not what that black piece is, the question is why does the magazine without the pinky extension not eject on its own and have to be pulled out. It doesn't budge at all when the release button is pressed, whereas the magazine with the black piece pops right out as expected.

My mistake, moss, I thought the one with rubber was hanging. Usually there is enough carrier spring tension pressing on the ejector mechanism to push it out slightly.

May have to try one of those loading thingys.

Sorry Mossman; I too misread what you clearly wrote. Anyway, I happened to recall that I had one that hung up like that, brand new, can't recall what size it was, and ended up finding a very slight difference in one of the tangs at the top of the mag, which I made only a few swipes with a file, and haven't had any problems since.

Ok. I'll take a closer look. May just order another mag with the pinky extension because I like that one better anyhow.

I took a closer look and there are a few minor differences between the mags. The one that doesn't eject is also about 0.1 mm thicker. Not sure if that's the problem. I contacted Ruger and asked for a replacement.
