Covering Brick on Fireplace

I want to cover the top part of my fireplace, which is brick. Should I use drywall or plywood? Also, I want to paint the bricks around the bottom part of the fireplace. Do I need to use a special type of paint, i.e. heat resistant? Thanks

painting fireplace brick

Have you had any luck ??? I have an old ugly/ drab fireplace too.

Mine is the color of concrete, and I want to change it. It's too dull.

Please let me know if you find anything. In the mean time, I'll look some more..

water runs down the exhaust

I have just put in a gas fireplace. My manual said to put in a 1/4 inch of incline for every foot of horizontal extension. my exhaust runs horizontally for about 6 feet. Thanx to the incline water runs real nice, all the way into my gas fireplace. According to the manual only 1 particular cap can be used for the end of the pipe due to odd diameter of the pipe. This cap is junk, water has a clear shot at my exhaust and it runs down the sleave. I made a dam out of sealant. I put it in about 3 inches from the opening. If it doesnt burn up from the heat, is this an ok fix? Don't worry, the sealant only raises up about a 1/4 of an inch and I dont think that it blocks much of the exhaust. I hope.Read More
