Hearthmaster Firestarter
I saw an interesting product. It is a natural gas firestarter that installs under the grate in a wood burning fireplace.
You simply light this cast iron tube under the grate and then shut it off once the wood fire is going (it has 16 gas jets).
Has anyone installed/used one of these? it sounds like a great idea.
I'd assume i would need to pipe it with cast iron since it has FIP opening. would one use the paste to seal the threads or tape since it would be exposed to the coals etc of a wood fire?
Thanks.
Dave

Dave4242,
Looks like a neat product but I have not seen them installed but this is a safe way to do it. Cost is reasonable...just have to get it plumbed for the gas! I would use only paste on the fittings, will withstand heat up to 400 degrees!
I posted the links to the Firestarter for others to view, if interested;

i also thought it would be a great way to start a fire, but when hot coals fall on the pipes/joints, i would think the temp would be much greater than 400 deg which is what the thread sealers can withstand. maybe i'll call the comapny.

Dave4242,
Yeah...give them a call and check it out. Don't need any mishaps at all. I wouldn't think it would be much higher than that, you're using it to start the fire, not keep it on during the fire. It was pretty reasonable for the unit.
Let us know!
