Redoing my fireplace front

We are looking to give our fireplace a face lift sorta speak. It is over 30 years old and it is showing it's age. It is Z-Brick right now. We thought a stone look would be better. Where and how do I begin with this project?

I just got done using the z-brick. The previous owners painted the brick and it was not coming off. It is easy to do but takes some time. I turned on a radio and just did it brick by brick and I love how it turned out.

Fireplace Mortar Repair

Hi, I just moved in to a townhouse where the area around the front of the fireplace (wood burning) looks like the mortar has crumbled away. You can feel a breeze coming from the area and it appears the glass/metal fireplace screen was mortared in and the mortar has worn away around the edges. If I were to attempt to repair this, what would I use? The previous renters just put down window insulation tape (laffs) but I really would love to use the fireplace! Any advice would be appreciated. Gas Fireplace question

I have recently moved into a house that has a Heat-n-glow fireplace, (natural Gas). It is a remote control model and I believe about 10 years old. My question is this- originally, when the remote was pressed, the fire would almost immediately start. Now it is taking sometimes over a minute to ignite, is this normal? if not what can you recommend? Obviously I am using fresh batteries in the remote.Read More
