Most fireplace manufactures offer such realistic zero clearance fireplaces that when finished with brick, tile or marble they are as close to a site built fireplace as you can get for considerably less money. Plus, these fireplaces carry up to a 20 year warranty on them. Try to find a rock mason who will put that in writing.
Lennox makes some very nice large fireplaces that you can order with a herringbone brick pattern. Check out the Estate 48" (thats a 48" opening). Open up the Estate48 file then click on view specifications. That will provide you with the framing and product specifications
Their website is www.lennoxhearthproducts.com

Xicotenco,
Just a note, most municipalities do require a licensed installer for fireplaces, whether it be custom masonry or factory, gas or wood. Check with your local building officials first. If you do this without a permit, your insurance company will not cover any damages incurred when they find you didn't obtain get one.
Good Luck!
