new screen causing smoking?

new screen causing smoking?
We have used our fireplace for years and never have had a problem with it smoking. Two days ago we installed a permanent glass/brass screen to the fireplace. For two nights we have had smoke coming back into the house. Is there anything we can do other than removing the screen?

binkmap,
Assuming that everything was fine before, did you purchase glass doors that have both top and bottom draft openings. If not your fireplace is not getting enough draft - open the doors!
A couple of things that could be happening;
1. Depending on your fireplace and flue, your glass doors should be open when burning a fire, the lack of draft upward will cause smoke to accrue. Doors should be closed when the fireplace is not in use of when the coals are almost out. - this is where the glass doors save in heat loss when not in fireplace is not in use. Glass door can also control the burning of the wood.
2. Have you recently acquired new wood that isn't seasoned well enough? Not burning properly - still damp inside core.
3. I assume that the dampers are open and adjusted properly.
Hope this helps!
