Install a Vent Pipe

I was thinking of installing a vent pipe into my 70 year-old fireplace to improve it's heating quality. Currently it makes the rooms upstairs much colder, and I am assuming this is partly because it is drawing in cold air to burn. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a manufactuer, or maybe a better solution?

mountain_ike,

First and foremost, I would recommend having a professional installer come over and review what you have to consider your options. What you are proposing is dueable but a licensed installer should do this as well as getting a permit.

Here is a site on improvment to fireplace efficiency;

Hope this helps!
