gas burning stoves

many of my neighbors are converting to gas stoves, replacing the wood burners and pellet stoves. they all say thats the way to go.
maybe so,but no one can tell me how much more,or, less gas costs compared to wood or wood pellets.
here in massachusetts,a cord of wood is $175-$200. pellets maybe $120-$140 a pallet.
i know there are a lot of varibles to this, but am hoping to get some pros and cons.
thanks
