painting brass fireplace frame

Hi,

We have a wood-burning fireplace that has the standard cheap brass (or whatever gold-colored metal) frame, with glass doors, that we don't really like. Since all the replacements we like seem to cost several hundred dollars, we thought of painting the brass a flat black color or something similar with some heat resistant paint. Has anyone tried this? Is it safe? Will the paint adhere well? Does it look like crap?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas, Andy

andyhix,

Yes you can paint it with heat resistant paint. Take a look at your local paint store for various primers and paint to suit to your liking.

Good Luck!
