gas fireplace

I have recently moved into a 2 yr old house with a propane fireplace. There is a tremendous draft when not in use. I am wondering what my options are for better insulation. There is no flu, and the pipe is fully open to the outside. It feels like the wind comes right through the fireplace into the house.
I'm not sure how hot it gets underneath or alongside, and I would be afraid to insulate there. I am also worried about it not venting poperly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

harryhomeowner,

I assume that this has glass doors, this is a direct vent unit. With the doors closed, this should be a sealed unit.

Right?
