fireplace clearance regulations

Quick question:

Can anyone tell me what the required clearance is for the hearth, left and right facing and distance to the mantel?

That is, how deep does the hearth have to be? How wide do the left and right facing have to be? And how tall does the non-combustible face above the box have to be?

In case it matters, I am in california.

Thanks!
Daniel

Your local municipality will have a standard detail.
However since you didn't specify what the type of fireplace it was, for masonry the hearth width is a min. of 20" and extends, in length, to the limits of the required face extension of a min. of 8" beyond the width of the firebox, each side and no combustable material shall be placed within 6" of the fireplace opening.
