Burning Candles in Firebox

I don't use my wood burning fireplace often...because of the ashe accumulation, etc... On a home improvement show...it showed the fireplace with numerous candles inside the firebox and it really looked nice and I thought I would prefer that over burning wood....is this a good idea and if so ...do I need to open the flue..while burning the candles.

I have noticed a large number of people doing the candle decorating thing. I cannot see a reason for opening the damper as the small amount heat would do nothing except start an updraft that would pull the heat from your home.( if you did not have glass doors) Good luck.

Leave the doors open and the flue shut. You can try it with the doors closed but I think it would starve the candles for air.

Oh and how could I not mention...my husband was like oh boy.....what the crap are u trying now candles in the fireplace thats silly.......now u should hear him now.......oh honey...that looks nice....and so on and so..........lol

Glad everything worked out for you and that you made your Hubby happy too. I just love it when a plan comes together.

In summertime we will use the candle lit fireplace for mood and appearance. We did it a lot and went thru tons of cheap candles. A friend found me a church supply catalog and I ordered some candles of various sizes that were 100% beeswax and boy do they last forever. The 7 day votive candles last a whole week like the catalog said. they also had various colors and sizes. Hope it helped.
