Have protruding brick fireplace and want wood mantle

I have a brick fireplace and want to cover it with wood. I am unable to find a pre-made mantle to cover it and think I need to build it custom. I am just wondering what would be the best way to attach the wood to the brick?

I would use Tapcon concrete anchors. Try to hit a mortar joint to avoid breaking any brick. Tapcons are a screw and you drill a hole with a masonary bit and then screw them in. They can be found at most Home centers and hardware stores. You would have to putty over the countersunk heads. Good luck.
