I have recently purchaced a new home with a gas fireplace. I would like to build a nice oak mantle for it. I have been unable to find any web sites that have measured drawing for mantles. Does any one have any suggestions?

Also for easier web searching get copernic .copernic is what is called a super search engine it's for free and it searches about 15 sites like yahoo,excite,msn ,google etc....Just type in mantle it searches for you you'll love it.

fireplace mantel

Hi my friend has a floor to ceiling red brick fireplace and on every row of bricks there are a few bricks sticking out for looks. My question is ,he wants to install a wooden mantel above the fireplace but doesn`t know how to go about doing it.I saw somewhere that if you drill a couple of half inch holes through the morter between the bricks and also into the wooden mantel,you can epoxy half inch rods into these holes to support it. Will this work and do you have any other ideas which may also work. Thank you and I also want to say your site is great

Yesterday, I smelled gas in my living room near the gas fireplace. I then called the gas company and was informed that my gas log fireplace was not to be used again until I get the chimney cleaned, as well as the fake logs. The gas man also stated that I would be best served (safety, health, and warmth) if I purchased a nonventing fireplace. As I have read some of the previous topics about which someone had problems with soot, I would like opinions about what to do in my case. Thanks.
