I had a free standing natural gas stove installed with my basement project. It has only been a few months and I just love it. It keeps the basement very comfortable.
I can't say I heard of a DV through a window? My DV is going thru a wall. I can't give you any DIY tips. The dealer installed mine. I think its a good idea for the plumber to run the gas line and pressure test for you. Also, you may want to get a good strong helper for the install because that stoves a beast.
Did you choose the stove yet?

No stove choice yet but this project is a little ways off I am in the process of doing new oak kitchen cabinets from Home Depot once that job is done my finished basement,if I have any money left will get that gas stove. What kind did you put in? P.S. I plan on closing up the window I want to DV through.

Ok, that makes sense.
I went with Heat-N-Glo Tiara II. Again, it does a great job heating the space. I only use it when needed, and it heats up the space in about 20mins. My basement is divided into a rec area, bedroom and shower bath. The finished area measures about a 1000 sq ft.
You can put the stove in later if short on cash. I would just have the gas line run. Also, you should have a pro survey your location of the DV to ensure it complies with codes. Good Luck.

According to my town code the vent must be at least 18 inches above grade so I have to snorkel up with a 36 Inch snorkel and it should be fine. Thanks for the comments.
