Plasma Tv Location

I Would Like To Hang A Plasma Tv Over An Electric Or Gel Burning Fireplace But I Don't Know If It Would Harm The Tv. Can Anyone Help? Thanks,barbee

Just kidding. Put a thermometer up where the tv will go and light and fire. How hot does it get? Write that number down it will be needed in the next step. Are you ready? Ok now open your plasma tv manual and check the maximum operating temperate of that tv. If the first number you found is lower than the 2nd number than install your plasma tv above your fireplace and enjoy whatever the heck you watch on it.

This Old House installed a plasma screen above a fireplace in a recent project with no problems.

Confused about building a new fireplace

Hi fellow DIYers, I have bought a gas fireplace and surround and mantle and so forth and want to fit it myself. I already have a gas supply and will probably get someone to connect it. My chimney has been bricked up for years. I have knocked through a whole to find that there is no fireplace inside. Is it ok for me to just build a new masonry fire place or are there any codes regarding safty I need to adere to? I would be grateful for any advice on this job because I'm not feeling too confident about this project.Read More

Cumbustion air inlet Vs. Cold air inlet?

Whats the difference? My fireplace instructions state the cold air inlet is for Canada only and I'm in the U.S. but I'm curious. The descriptions make them sound as if they do the same thing. On my fireplace the coldair inlet is on top and the combustion air inlet is on the right side. The coldair inlet on top is covered by a metal plate but does not seem like its seeled. If I am not going to be using this cold air inlet do I need to seal that closed?Read More
