Gas Fireplace Sourcing/ Codes

I have two part question regarding gas fireplaces. I am considering installing a circular glass gas fireplace in an atic renovation. I can not find anything close to what I'm imagining or have seen on tv. I want something that can be installed in the center of my room with glass viewing all around or almost. Does anyong have a clue.

Would this gas fireplace have to be vented or can they exhaust in the room for heat.

Finally, I have large diameter yellow gas line running accross my basment to a pool heater. Can I paint this line white or box it in to hide it?

THanks,
John

I'm no expert but I know you should not vent a fireplace into a room or house for two reasons one is you deplete the oxygen in the room and the other is gas contains so much moisture you would create problems with mold and mildew. I believe the manufacturers of these "Vent Free" appliances state not to run them more than so many hours per day because of the reasons I stated above. Look for a direct vent with the exhaust and supply air in the same pipe. Exhaust goes out the center pipe and the combustion air enters from the outer sleeve.
