Fireplace, but no damper!!

My house has file place, but it does not have any damper. I don't see any sign of having damper.

Is it possible to install damper in the chimney where there never was a damper. How do I do it?

Becasue there is no damper, I get lots of insects through chimney.

There are chimney top dampers available. Enter 'chimney top dampers' in your favorite search engine.

Moving Boiler and Hot water Tank Chimney

Not sure if this is the right place for thsi question, if not ...sorry. I am remodelling the kitchen. The boiler and hotwater chimneys tie together and go up through a wall that is being removed. (Hopefully) I want to repipe the chimneys about 8 feet over to another wall and make the chimney chase, run it up the new wall and then back over to the old chimney pipe, once it get back into the attic. (This will save punching a new hole in the roof) Unfortunatley where the new chimney will need to run is the hot air duct work (main header). To make this work I will need to shorten the hot air main header by two feet and move the take offs further up stream. This will mean a few more elbows in the system. Is there a problem with this? Also how does on go about cutting the main duct?Read More

Howdy. I'm trying to sell my house and it appears that storing my exercise bike on the black stone (I think it might be slate) "plain" in front of the fireplace (about 2.5' deep by 6' wide) has resulted in lots of scratches and discoloration. Can you tell I don't know much about fireplaces? Anyhow, short of replacing it, is there some sort of product or commercially available service (but not too pricey) that I could use to at least clean up the stone, fade the scratches, and basically make it look better? Okay, if I have to replace just that part, any estimates on the price to have that sort of work done and the time involved? Thanks in advance for any and all advice!Read More
