Help: Which type of heat is best???

I am getting confused as i talk to different professionals. I have a 2000 Sq. ft Split level entry home (1000 feet per floor). I currently heat with oil hot water heating, which also heats my domestic water. ($4100 per year total)
I have thought about a woodstove downstairs, a pellet stove, an insert into the up stairs fireplace and even a new boiler. The room the furnace is in is a 15x30 room which has a door that goes out to the hallway that goes up to the front door. I need to get some advice on which heating method would heat my home. We pay that 4100 per year and we are cold in the winter!

Thanx

Corey

Depending on where you live, some may say this is a reasonable cost/year. You might want to take a look at your insulation, seal all air leaks, and take other steps to reduce wasted heat, including turning thermostat back a notch or two. Depending on age of boiler and water heater, replacement may be worthwhile, as newer units are more efficient.

What type of heating system is a matter of personal choice. Changing to a different type of system may not pay for itself if you plan on moving soon.

Here's a helpful link to the Dept. of Energy to help you assess your needs: http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/your_home/space_heating_cooling/index.cfm/mytopic=12330
