Chimney Leak Letting Geyser Into Basement?

I know cross-posting is frowned upon, but a problem I posted about in the basement forum seems like it might involve a leak in my chimney (specifically a clean-out opening below grade in my basement).

Here is a link to my question in that forum. Any advice is much appreciated.

Have a chimney professional inspect the chimney. The crown is often a source of moisture penetration, and it may require repair. Having chimney capped is also a good preventive step. Address the moisture issues as instructed in your other thread.
