Ceiling chimney question....

So I am removing our cast iron woodburning stove. The chimney goes straight up from the stove to the ceiling. My question is can I just cap the hole where the chimney enters the ceiling or is there some type of support I need to do for what is left in the ceiling? Any info. appreciated, my husband hates it when I get these wild remodeling ideas, but I have already found a new home for the stove and now I need to be able to give dear hubby instructions on what he needs to do next to the ceiling.
Thanks in advance for your help!

After you remove stove and black pipe. there will be a chimney support box that you will be looking at hanging down... You can go above into the attic and remove the class A pipe section by section. then you can remove the chimney support box and fill in the ceiling... not hard at all....

Smile Thank you!

Thanks so much for your quick response. Now I just have to get it on the honey do list.
Thanks again
