Homemade Wood Stove Polilsh
I am looking for a recipe for making homemade wood stove polish. I saw a recipe once in "Rodale's Organic Gardening, Camden, NJ," but lost the book and would like to make my own.
My stove is a 100 year old box stove which has not been painted for many years but has had commercially available stove polish on it.

Stove polish is used on unpainted stoves. Polish should not be used on painted, enameled, or stainless steel stoves. If stove has a polished finish, it can be polished with a commercial stove polish like http://www.doityourself.com/invt/6431290 or wiped with cottonseed oil. Local hearth stores should have stove polishes. These are usually made with oil-based waxes and black pigments.

You might be remembering a different book, or my versions are too new. I have the Rodale's "All New Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening" and Rodale's "Chemical-Free Yard and Garden" and neither has any mention of anything related to wood stoves at all... Did you try Googling Mother Earth News or it's competitor (forgot the name)?
