Problems with fan

Hi there
we bought a new house in March and it had a propane fireplace. Well we got it hooked up last week and when the guys were there it was ok.

Last night my dh started it up and the fan didnt come on, but all the smoke alarms in the house came on. We can get the pilot started and the flame, but the fan jsut will not come on. When the guys were there, they did say that the fireplace was supposed to be hooked up to a main gas line and not a propane tank and it must have been reconfigured.

Any advice as to what this could be or how we could fix it or any ideas?

There should be an ID tag attached to the firebox or burner that will give you(us) more info on the type of fireplace you have. If you can post the mfg., model number and fuel type I can point you in the right direction.

I am not sure who hooked it up to propane, but if it is not set up for propane, DO NOT USE IT until you have a qualified gas fireplace professional inspect it. Burning it with the wrong fuel can cause death due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The fan may use a thermo disc that turns on the fan only when the firebox gets above a certain temperature, or the fan may be shot.

 

Its ok. Thanks for your advice. We turned the fire on over the weekend after reading the instructions. It says that the fan will come on 30 mins after igniting and it did.

The fire was a Napoleon and was changed from natural gas to propane.

I figure that when the smoke alarms came on it was probably due to some kind of burn off from the fire.
