Help, Mosquitoes coming in through chimney!

We've had some rain over the past few weeks here in west Texas. I've been waking up with mosquito bites all over my arms every morning for the last week. Tonight while sitting in the den, I realized they were coming in through the chimney! We need to install a rain cap soon, but is there anything else that can be done at the same time to prevent the mosquitoes from being able to fly down the chimney? Mesh? Netting? What material would be suitable?

It's possible that the mosquitoes have found water pooling somewhere in the recess's of your chimney. That would be a perfect breeding ground. I would get a fire going to drive them out with the heat up draft and also to dry out any standing water. That should resolve the current problem. Then I would get a cap installed as soon as possible.
