freestanding gas fire place to woodburning?
Hi,
We are looking to buy a new home currently under construction that has a free standing gas fireplace. The vent is up and out the roof but the stove is not hooked up yet.I would like a free standing woodburning fireplace instead. So my question is: can we use the existing gas fireplace vent with a wood burner or will we have to re do all the venting?
Thanks

In addition to a different size vent, you will need a different style vent pipe. Gas fireplaces require either "B" vent (double wall) pipe or direct vent pipe. Wood burning pipe I think has to be a minimum of triple wall pipe as wood burns significantly hotter than gas.
