Hi EE
Lots of IF'S here.
If I ever heard of this problem after cleaning, I would have something specific to reply with. Such is not the case, sorry.
Now the IF'S:
If the chimney sweeper has done the job completely and correctly, this problem shouldn't exist.
If your still smelling SOOT odor, try closing the fireplace doors <if you have any> or adding them.
If there is NO chimney cap, <spark arrestor> add one.
If you can, clean the hearth with old sponges or rags using TSP or equivalent.
If you haven't washed/cleaned the walls/rugs/draperies etc. try doing so. The odor just may be in those items.
If anyone else has helpful ideas to offer Dee, post it here.
Good Luck,
TomBartco
