How do I put a gas line for starting a wood fire in a wood burning fireplace? Is there a kit?

Yes there are "kits", but the kit doesn't include the plumber and mason you will need to drill a hole in the side of the firebox and run the gas pipe. The "kit" really only consists of the burner port assembly.

There are codes regarding gas lines in fireplaces. Consult a mason or a plumber in your area before beginning your project.

replacing fireplace tile

I have a built-in fireplace that has at least 20 coats of paint on it. I've stripped the wood, but cannot figure out what to use to strip the tile. Consequently, I would like to replace the tile. Can you tell me what kind of tile would be the best to use? How difficult it would be to use a mosaic pattern? What tools I would need? Would I have to should remove the original tile or could I tile over it? Also, are there any instructions for this project?

Refacing Painted Fireplace

I am very close to buying a home and am hesitant due to the fireplace having several coats of white paint. I've heard that it's nearly impossible to remove the paint, and hop that there is another answer. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advanvce, Susan
