Should you shut the gas of to a fireplace for the Summer?

Just wondering if one should shut the gas of to the gas fireplace for the summer to save on gas costs. Ours has a pilot light that always seems to be on. It's a new house and new fireplace.

Sure. Just shut the gas off at the cutoff valve, and make sure that there is no leak at the pilot.
