whitewashing a fireplace

I have wallpapered my living area in hues of beige, now the fireplace needs to be lightened up. I was wondering if anybody knew what type of paint to use to whitewash it. thanks

A tinted masonry sealer would be a better choice than paint. If paint must be used thin latex paint.
