Question

I just bought a 1912 house. I was told by the previous owner that the fireplace was a coal burning fireplace. Can I use it to burn wood or does it need major modifications?

Cool

Before you burn ANYTHING in a fireplace that old, have it cleaned/inspected by a pro with a lighted video camera.
Unless there has been a flue liner added at some point, I would think that this old coal burning fp might be too dangerous.
However, if it is deemed safe to burn coal, it should be safe to burn wood.
Good Luck!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply. I definitely will get a pro to do an inspection first.
