Does a No Vent Fireplace set make sense in a vented setup?

I have a new vented fireplace but have not installed any gas logs yet. The gas line is all setup but I was wondering if I can install a Ventless log set? With the increasing cost of natural gas and the heat that goes up the chimney, I wonder if a ventless system would heat my family room more effeciently...by the way..how do ventless systems work? Where does the CO go?

Thanks

A ventless burner is a great idea! Close the damper in your vented fireplace and forget that it was ever installed. Essentially you have just made a ventless fireplace. Our local utility company here test for CO around gas fireplaces in all new construction. They typically find about 5-6 ppm on a ventless setup. This is an extremely low number. Ventless burners are very eficient and burn very clean. Check the specs on microwave ovens. I think they run about 5-6 ppm also.
