Counter flashing on new chimney

In the past, I installed new counter flashing on my chimney by cutting a groove into the grout. When building a new masonry chimney, is it possible install the flashing as I am building it (when the mortar is still wet)? Thanks

yes, the flashing would need to extend into the mortar joint about 3/4". Each course of counter flashing gets installed clear back to the roof deck (forming a triangle) and successive courses would need to overlap the last by quite a bit. You Tube has a few good videos on the subject.
