Recommendation on top-mounted damper?

My flues currently have no covers, each of which has an old throat damper that is FAR from making a good seal. About all they are good for is keeping birds out of the house.

Anyhow, I was thinking, to solve both problems, I would just install these top mount dampers like these here :Lock Top Energy Saving Damper, Energy Saving Damper, Damper, Top Mount Damper, Fireplace Damper

Anyone have experience with these type of dampers? Junk? Good/Bad idea?

They are very commonly used...esp when an old flue dampers are damaged or missing. Properly installed they work just fine.

Some vacation homes I've rented have used a damper like that and they seemed to work well.
