The back wall of my fireplace is cracked. The back wall and side walls are seperate pieces of some kind of masonary, they are not brick. What is this material called, and where can I find it? I would like to replace it.

I ALSO HAD A FIREPLACE WITH WALLS WHICH CRACKED IN FACT THE BACK WALL COMPLETELY CRUMBLED. THESE ARE CALLED REFRACTORS - THEY USE THEM IN NEWER PREFABBED FIREPLACES RATHER THAN ONE BUILT WITH GOOD OLD BRICK AND MORTAR. IF YOU LOOK VERY HARD ON THE METAL ENCLOSURE OF YOUR FIREPLACE YOU CAN FIND BRAND NAME, SERIAL AND MODEL #'S OF YOUR FIREPLACE. THEN CALL LOCAL FIREPLACE STORES AND FIND OUT WHO CARRIES YOUR BRAND. GIVE THEM MODEL AND SERIAL #'S THEN THEY CAN ORDER ANY OR ALL THREE PIECES FOR YOU. WORKED FOR ME MY FIREPLACE LOOKED LIKE NEW WHEN I SOLD THE CONDO IT WAS IN. THEY ARE PRETTY PRICEY THOUGH - I PAID ABOUT $80.00 A PIECE FOR MINE AND IT WAS A LOW END MODEL.
