Best way to demolish fireplace mantel/stone?

Working on :

Want to get rid of the whole piece and just do a tiled wall above the fireplace and doing tile floors. The top part looks glued to the wall and almost appears hollow while the bottom seems like it is bricks. Should I take a sledgehammer to it or what would be a good way to get rid of it?

I bought a Bosch Bulldog Extreme hammer drill from Lowe's. Many great ratings on all the places. If it dies tomorrow I can't argue. I used it to tear down my entire chimney, mantel, brick and slate hearth. It also removed over 200' of Belgian block from the sides of my sidewalk and driveway. My friend used it to pull up all his tile in his kitchen, I also chiseled through 4" slab to add plumbing (that took longer than getting a "large Jack hammer) but I had it already.

I tried the hammer/chisel/sledgehammer thing first but just made more mess with chunks of crap flying everywhere and a lot more manual labor swinging.
