Natural Gas Fireplace - Bubbling sound

We moved into our new home last month. We have a gas fireplace with a remote control starter. There is no need to turn on/off the pilot. Yesterday we noticed that when we turn the fireplace on we hear a bubbling sound coming from the fireplace. When we turn it off it goes away. For safety sake we are leaving it off until it gets looked at next week but I wanted to see if anyone had ideas on what this may be, if its a cause for concern? We have ran the fireplace many times before this and we did not hear any sounds...so this is very new.

Thank you.

I have heard something like that with gas logs. Are you able to adjust the flame height? Generally I find there is one flame setting that makes a soft popping or bubbling sound but adjusting the flame can make it go away. Does your fireplace have sand, lava rock or other loose bits that can be moved about? You can try moving the material around a bit and see if the popping sound goes away.
