Incomplete fireplace, will it still work?

Hi There,

Its cold here in Melbourne right now and I'm only about 1/2 finished with my fireplace.

Its been tiled and the front faceplate(?) is on but I am missing the entire backplate. I was wondering if I could just buy a cast iron log holder and light it up inside the fireplace without any backplate or other accessories.

Cheers

Jeff

Welcome to the forums! If the inside of the fireplace is not finished, do not start a fire in it, period. I'm not sure what the hearth requirements are down under, but here, your hearth is too short.

Hi Chandler,

Thanks for getting back to me. This is an old covered fireplace that I reopened and has shown signs of use before - so I'm guessing its legit as far as the regs are concerned. I'm just not sure whether they removed any equipment from the "hole" or not.

You need to get it checked by a chimney sweep.
