Painting Brick Fireplace
Can someone suggest a good paint for painting our brick fireplace ? I would like to restore it to as close as original red brick color as possible

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is unpainted, unsealed. I was thinking about using any paint (saw some video in Lowes as well) but then some site says it need to be breathable . Some sites sell some special fireplace paint kit for $200 for 60 square foot ! Wonder what's so special about those ?

I'm not all that familiar with Behr's coatings although they don't have the greatest reputation. You shouldn't need an elastomeric type paint. It's mostly for waterproofing and sealing minor cracks.
Most latex based coatings are breathable, oil base coatings are not. The fire box or other heat sensitive areas need a heat paint which can be very pricey. The brick facade doesn't require that type of paint.

My 2¢ would be to go to a paint store (not a paint department) to get your paint - better products and advice.
