Gas Fireplace Ignition Question

I have a Superior Natural Gas log stove in my home. The pilot light was turned off when I bought the home. It was built in 2005. The gas company turned it on for me. There is a switch on the wall. Sometimes it takes several minutes to ignite, but they said there is no danger of a gas explosion because the gas doesnít flow until ignition occurs. It has taken as long as 45 minutes to light after the switch is turned on. I am having second thoughts about using this thing. Should I be concerned?
Model Superior DT-600 CMN
Thanks.

Could be the thermocouple which detects flame, if not working it doesn't sense the pilot flame and wont open the valve. Could be a bad valve.

Its over 13 years old so appears to need some service!

Thanks, Iím looking for someoto service it. The gas companies only turns it on. That charged me $90.00. Most heating companies wonít go near them. Iím surprised since so many houses have them pre installed.
Thanks

That fireplace has a standing pilot..... it uses a thermocouple to hold the pilot valve open and a pilot generator to open the main valve. Since the pilot is lit.... the thermocouple is ok. It would appear that the pilot needs servicing as it's not generating enough voltage to open the gas valve.

Your manual... manuals lib/171024/Superior-Direct-Vent-DT-600CMN
