Exclamation Gas fireplace fan coming on when flame is not lit

Hope everyone is healthy and safe at home! We have a gas fireplace where the pilot is always lit. This afternoon I started hearing the blower fan coming on. The flame is started by a switch in the wall which is in the off position. When I started hearing the fan I realized the front of the fireplace is quite hot. You can touch it but it's way warmer than it should be when it's not on. I think I should shut off the gas entirely but it's kind of alarming. Any advice? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

A picture of your fireplace or a link to it would be very helpful.
How-to-insert-pictures.

A have a completely enclosed glass front fireplace that is also quite warm due to the large pilot light used.

What concerns me is that yours got hot enough to activate the "temperature activated" blower. That would be quite hot. I would think that to get that hot that there would have to be visible flames other than the pilot light.

When in doubt..... always shut the gas off. There should be a Dante gas shutoff valve in your floor or wall. Some fireplaces have a tip down kick panel where it can also be shut off.
