Question Subflooring thick enough?

Hello,
I am in the process of finishing an already framed room in my attic. There is subflooring that is 1/2 in. thick. Does it have to be thicker than this (code -wise)? Do I have to pull up the old subfloor or can I just add to it? Thanks!

4runnin welcome to the forum.

First a few things, is the joist 16 on center? What are the sizes of the joist (exp, 2x6 2x10?)? If the sub floor you have in place now is in good condition I would overlay with 5/8 plywood. Make sure you mark the joists and nail the new sub floor directly into the joists as well. This should get you on your way. Please post back with responses to the above questions as they could affect the way you tackle your project. What do you plan to use this new room as? Hope this helped and good luck

Like Homer said, need to know about the size & spacing of the joist under the 1/2" subfloor. Need to confirm that the framing is adequate to make this area usuable for anything other than storage.
