Please help! Subfloor making cracking/popping sounds in cieling below!!

Hello all-
Recently bought a home built in 1999. It is a 2 story and when someone is walking around on the second floor there is big time cracking and popping sounds coming from the ceiling on the first floor. I have tried screwing the flooring down (pulled the carpet up) but it almost seems to be worse!

What can I do and what exactly is making this terrible noise?

Thank you,
Erik

My first question would be: Can you feel any movement in the floor as you walk or extensive vibration? It may be that the span of the floor joist might be to long for the joists used. But if you just purchased the home I would look into your insurance and warranty options and get the opinion of a professional that can actually inspect the problem? Hope this helps and good luck

I would second Homer's advice on this.
