hip roof framing

Hi All,

Can anyone point me to a site (book, program, etc.) that'll give me a way of calculating dimensions and angles of hip roof framing members given the roof pitch and outside wall lengths? Or am I asking too much?

Thanks

Assuming that all pitches are the same

Instead of x/12 it is x/17 is close enough. It is really 16.9706..... So if your roof is 6/12 your hip rafter is 6/17. For the horizontal length of the framing member you can take your hip setback and divide it by .7071. Take for example a 7' setback on a hip. If you divide 7' by .7071 you come up with a horizontal dimension of 9-10-13.

Simple A squared + B squared = C squared stuff. You knew that there had to be some real world use for that crap you did back in geometry
