framing in a closet

framing in a closet
I'm a new owner-builder (2 months) trying to find info on framing in sliding closet doors. I've found plenty of closet doors to purchase, but I haven't found any way to determine what are 'typical' RO for closet doors. Do I have to choose the doors I want to buy before I frame in the walls? Or are there some standards I can rely on?
I want to do something standard and reasonably priced (think big box stores...). This will be a closet in a room that is used very infrequently. So, don't feel you need to advise me on non-standard, expensive closet door/framing techiniques.
Thanks!

Dawn,
Since you stated that you are wanting this to be an inexpensive door system for the closet in question, I would assume that you will choose to go with a traditional hollow-core bi-fold door. You can buy them from most big box places in standard 4', 5', or 6' widths. We typically rough in closets one inch larger than the door unit to be installed. Standard doors are 80" tall and let's say for for this example you're closet door will be 5' wide, You would frame the rough opening to 61" x 81", then you door will fit right in there like a bug in a rug.
Besides the price factor, I also recommend the hollow-core door because of it's light weight, solid core doors tend to be much harder on the track system and create more problems down the road.
Hope that helps you out & good luck with the new house.
