help cleaning residue off hard wood floors

I have ?oak hard wood floors in my house. Only problem is, some bright spark layed industrial vinal tiles on top of the wood - when those tiles are removed, there is a black residue - presumable glue of some sort. Is there any easy or easier way to get it off other than scraping? Any and all suggestions welcome and appreciated - there is about 1500sqft of it, so it seems like a lot to tackle if there is an easier way....

Thanks

Oops is a good product that'll get rid of alot of type os goo, also have used some stuff called Goo Gone that worked well. Another cleaning compound I've used is called Awesome, works wonders and is only $1 a bottle at the Dollar General store. Good luck.
