subfloor question

I am buying a 100 yr old house. The second floor has exposed hardwood subfloors, at least i think they are. I don't know what, if anything, was ever laid ontop of the floors. The prior owners had recently removed the old carpeting just before i puchased the house. The floor seems to be in good condition at most of the rooms. Can it be sanded and coated for a finished hardwood floor?

That's a pretty common situation. Sand and enjoy your new hardwod floors or let them be and have the distressed look.
